Dilston Mill - A view from Devil's
                        Water

Dilston Mill - Welcome!

Welcome to Dilston Mill, a unique converted, historic watermill on the banks of Devils Water in Northumberland. This unspoiled and uncrowded area is one of England's best kept secrets and the Mill has been a witness to its dramatic and colourful history back to the Middle Ages with links further back to Roman and Anglo-Saxon times.

Dilston Mill is in a secluded but convenient position. It is only one mile from Corbridge and two from Hexham. These charming and historic towns with Roman remains and ancient churches also offer excellent dining and other amenities, including a theatre, cinema, swimming pool and country park. Dilston Mill is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty with a rich heritage from the Romans of Hadrian’s Wall to medieval castles, bastles and pele towers of the untamed 17th century Reivers and classic country houses and gardens.

Dilston Mill’s location and atmosphere provide a special experience: a slow bed and breakfast with peace, quiet and low key use of resources. There is no television in the accommodation, but there is Wi-Fi and a radio/CD player in each suite. Dilston Mill has been in tune with current ‘eco’ practices long before they became popularly promoted. Low light pollution affords wonderful 'Dark Skies' views of the constellations from the garden on clear nights. The Mill is located on a public footpath, linking to local countryside walks. Close to the bus and train as well, you also have the option of going out and about while leaving the car behind.

Popular with fishing visitors, the Mill is also close to all modern sporting (fishing, watersports, pony trekking, cycling, walking) and leisure amenities and entertainments, nightlife and shopping of Newcastle, Gateshead and the Metrocentre. In addition, the world heritage site of Durham Cathedral and Castle, Beamish outdoor museum, Kielder lake, coastal beaches, hills, moorland and the Scottish borders are all within easy reach on modern, often uncrowded, roads. And if you venture off the main roads, you will probably have the place to yourself!

Dilston Mill visitors are special; there is only one party at a time in each of the Suites. They are COVID post-lockdown user-friendly, each with its own front door and no shared space.  [Note, they can be interconnecting for larger parties].

For visitor safety and security, additional cleaning and sterilising plans were put in place. These extra measures and social distancing to minimise personal contact can be re-instated if required.

• The 'Private Suite' for 2-4 persons includes stylish and comfortable double and twin bedrooms, a large shower room and a cosy and relaxing breakfast room with table and chairs and kitchen area, all overlooking the river. The breakfast room kitchenette has a sink unit, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster and cutlery and crockery.
• The 'Studio' for 2 persons is a spacious room with a large en-suite bathroom (bath and shower), kingsize double bed, table and chairs. The kitchenette area has a sink unit, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster and cutlery and crockery. The ground floor location and separate entrance provide easy access.

Please contact us if you have special dietary requirements.

In a beautiful riverside position, Dilston Mill can be your relaxing base with fresh fruit, teas, coffee and biscuits always available. It’s a great place to ‘get away from it all’, but there is a wi-fi connection. You can relax locally or have active days of sightseeing, shopping, business and fun.
