Dilston Mill Things To Do

There is a wonderful choice of tourist, cultural and sporting activities close to and within easy travelling distance of Dilston Mill.

We are located on a footpath in an acknowledged beauty spot, so as well as relaxing, you can start your adventures on foot if walking is your preference. With Corbridge only one mile, Hexham only two and a main bus service nearby, you can have an 'easy' outing as well as a more ambitious one.

You can also travel by car or leave it safely parked and use the conveniently close bus and train transport for a change. These travel through the Tyne Valley to both Newcastle and Carlisle with interesting places to stop in between. There is also a special Hadrian's Wall Bus Service which stops at the attractions along Hadrian's Wall.

Special attractions of the area include the following:

  • Beautiful countryside, both peaceful and dramatic, includes Hadrian's Wall with Roman museums, excavated sites and striking reconstructions. There are Hadrian's Wall Trail for walkers and Hadrian's Wall Cycleway.
  • Medieval castles and stately homes and gardens, many of which are tended by English Heritage and the National Trust which put on imaginative programmes of fun and educational events.
  • Kielder Water and Forest Park holds one of Europe's largest man-made lakes and a whole host of water sports, with hiking and cycling forest trails and visitor centres.
  • The area is ideal for walking and rambling and is also home to important cross-country bike routes, including C-2-C with cycle hire widely available. Hadrian’ Wall Trail and Cycleway are now well established.
  • Other outdoor pursuits are well catered for with a superb range of golf courses, horse-riding and trekking centres and swimming, sailing, fishing and beaches close by.
  • Fisherman’s Friend: the Mill is popular with fishing visitors.  In a lovely riverbank setting on Devil’s Water, the Mill is a short walk to the river Tyne.   It is close to fishing beats at Dilston, Corbridge, Styford and Bywell.
  • Exciting programmes at superb theatres, cinemas, galleries and arts centre are all with easy reach. Visit Theatre Royal, Newcastle and The Sage Music Centre and Baltic Art Centre in Gateshead.
  • The area is famous for it's rich heritage and cultural sites with award-winning museums, monuments and sites including Beamish Open Air Museum, Bowes Museum, Durham Cathedral and Castle.
  • Fantastic shopping opportunities are provided by Hexham Farmers Market, Country Market Towns, Newcastle and other cities and the famous Gateshead Metrocentre.

ENJOY!
